In our quest to create a glocal game that encourages cooperation, strengthens real world connections while allowing us to use the Internet to co-weave our stories, the Play4Life Challenge has emerged
Initially concieved as a single team game in the streets of Athens (part of an immersive technique pioneered to integrate street theater with the sense of a game), Play4Life expanded as the group dynamics oganically formed a network of GameMakers, who have been actively co-designing the game they will play figuring out how to link Athens to other gamenodesThe designing of the game evolved to become part of the play, as the group consciousness intuitively began to formulate a method of play to allow us from many parts of the world to play together with whom we choose, how we choose and towards healing our inner and shared wounds, finding courage to forge ahead, to commune with each other. In this sense, ‘play’ became the objective and trust became the currency Another clear design detail that heavily influenced the design of the game was the idea that the technology (and desire/ability to connect to far-away) should not surpass the intimacy and directness of real life connections. We did not want the device to come between people in a shared space, but to invisibly affirm our connection and allow us to share some of the experiences and outcomes some early design around some sort of gaming appSo in the end, the gaming side was less developed (no gaming app or heavy live video streaming) and we instead focused on creating a genuine mindful game process that incorporates U-Theory, immersive street theater like Theater of Oppressed, Dragon Dreaming and the kinds of systems thinking we need to represent ourselves as Citizens of the EarthShip The game should be playable if you are alone in the middle of the wild, if you are in the city with a few buddies that want to play along, or at a more centralized node that has several teams co-playing. If you are not at a key node (for now — Athens, Bonn and Cape Town), you will have a few options on how to play If you are going solo, we suggest having some paper and pens if you want to share some of your thoughts or doodles. If you plan to be entirely offline ( really in the woods and with no network ), you can download (and write) a few things down to help guide the journey If you have a few buddies, then as a group, you should figure out a good space to play the game. It could be, we imagine, a public space like the beach or park. Especially in the city, we know this isnt always practical. Still, connecting to Natures patterns (as we re-pattern ourselves as individuals and society at large) is really important, so find a space that you might not have first thought of, a liminal in-between space that needs some love and would love some interactions On the GameDay, 11.11 am is when the game officially starts in Athens. At this point, in Bonn the start of the Climate March at the United Nations climate conference COP23. At this point we begin this process of Play, co-sensing and testing ways to demonstrate interdependance and form fresh creative outputs, playing together to change our inner world If you have not registered yet, please head to www.play4life.ga Check out also our FaceBook group, and also our EarthSong Bounty (decided by consensus and in the form of a FairCoin (cryptocurrency) wallet Also, check out the backstory of how the Play4Life game evolved here
